Sheri Lee Butler

Warrenville, Ill resident, co-op member and co-founder of the original Prairie Oak Artisans in Warrenville, Butler is a multi-media artist with diverse talents and a love for the natural world. Butler paints in her home studio and gallery, sharing her space with many cats. Butler counts her garden as one of her ongoing works, which attracts frequent visitors due to its constantly changing nature.

Statement: Sheri Lee Butler strives to reveal the hidden mysteries and subtle beauty of the natural world in her works. Sometimes this beauty can be found in unusual places or in different ways of looking at the same old things, and sometimes that beauty can be found in places and ways that are challenging for us to think about. Her works carry themes of mystery and multiple layers of meanings.

Media: Butler's current works are primarily in oil, though she also includes fiber and other types of paints in her oil paintings. Frequently working on very large canvases, Butler specializes in the human figure. Butler's home gallery and studio at 30W080 Lakeview Drive in Warrenville, IL, is open to the public every Friday from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, (630) 393-2212, and she has works in both Prairie Oaks Artisans and Prairie Oak Artisans North. Butler is a fiber artist, spinning and weaving fibers as diverse as dog hair and silk. Butler also counts her garden as an ongoing work of art. Currently, the garden features a sand beach and prairie plants. Butler's diverse products include hypertufa planters for the garden, voodoo dolls, persona boxes, and communication masks.

Of Note: Sheri Lee Butler was commissioned by the Warrenville Library to paint a work for the children's section of the newly remodeled and expanded library.
