Jan SmithTo Jan Smith, environmental issues are very important, and she is involved actively in a number of local and national organizations that work on environmental issues, including The Wild Ones. It is therefore appropriate that her art helps the inhabitants of the environment: Her birdbaths provide water for birds and other wildlife.

Statement: Birds looking for water fly over the area, then land on a perch nearby to assess the area for safety before dropping down to drink. Birds naturally prefer to drink from at or near ground level, so Smith's birdbaths are designed to sit directly on the ground, or perhaps up on a few stones or a slab of flagstone. Leaves of the woodland and prairie are impressed into the concrete to make designs that remind us of the beauty that is naturally all around. They an be left out in winter, but should be emptied and turned upside down. Media: Proprietary concrete.
Pricing and Ordering information: Small, $40, Medium $50, Large $60 plus $15 crating and shipping. Matching stepping stones available. (630) 393-4598. Small size makes an excellent centerpiece bowl for fruit or cones or pods. Be sure to put a cloth or mat under the concrete bottom to protect the table. |
