                                        Gale Statz

Gale Statz brings art to a very personal level, with her crocheted asymmetric shawls that she makes without a pattern.  Each one is truly unique, and can be worn many ways, making the owner part of the process of interpreting the final visual effect of the artwork.

Statement: Gale Statz works in yarns in a palette of natural colors that bring to mind the stormy skies and waters of summer, the rich green hills of summer, the ripe grasses and turning leaves of autumn, and the Wisconsin hills' layered browns after harvest. Bringing warmth to the wearer in a way that is unique to each garment and unique to each person who wears that garment, Statz's art is purely one-of-a-kind.

Media: Crocheting with wool and acrylic yarns.

The Product:  This crocheted shawl of original design has a short 'side' and a long 'side'.  If the long side is worn to the front, it takes on the appearance of a classic shawl, without the trouble of holding it on, since the center is joined.  If the short side is worn in front, the back hangs like a cape.  With the long and short at the sides, the appearance is refreshingly asymmetric and unlike any other garment, and therefore, defies accurate naming!

Frosted Grass Moss and Ferns Stormy Skies

Customization available: Length of short side and length of long side ore independently customizable.  Neck treatment can be plain with no collar, stand up collar, lay down collar, or cowl.  If buttons are desired, they can be to shoulder only, or along entire side.  Hem can be fringed, straight, ruffled, or 'castle peaks'.  A variety of ornamentation can be added, and matching or coordinating scarves are available. Many color choices are available, and edge and collar can be of same color or coordinating or contrasting color.  Options are available in a binder at the Mineral Point gallery, or can be discussed via email or telephone.

Pricing and Ordering information: Wool shawls start at $280 and acrylic shawls start at $120.  Coordinating scarves are $30. Call the Mineral Point gallery or (608) 935-0220.
