Cheryl Mahowald turns natural materials and paper pulp into wonderful book covers and end papers and divider papers that she then binds into books. Mahowald also crafts notecards and other products from her handmade paper.

Statement: Paper can be a backdrop for art of many media, but paper can be an art onto itself. Books made of handmade paper provide art that can be held, touched, and a book is art that can be experienced a bit at a time over time, enriching the process by viewing the art in a preordained order. The beauty of dried natural materials is preserved by using it in the cover or end papers of a beautiful handmade book.
